Empowering professionals & parents through Deep Pressure Touch.
'Clinical observations and several studies suggest that deep pressure touch is therapeutically beneficial for both children with autistic disorder and probably children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder'
Temple Grandin, 1992
The Deep Pressure Touch programme was devised and created by Alex Hermann, Occupational Therapist and Fiona Degler, Specialist Aromatherapist.
The programme was created to meet the sensory needs of young people with autism, complex behaviours and communication & interaction difficulties. The programme not only meets these needs but also allows individuals to be well regulated, engage with learning, promotes communication and reduces dysregulation, anxiety and behaviours.
Deep Pressure can meet the sensory needs of people with sensory processing disorders, communication and interaction difficulties, autism, ADHD and a wide range of special educational needs.
The programme focuses on training professionals and staff in order for them to be able to meet the needs of the individuals they work with. The programme aims to reduce anxiety, dysregulation and behaviours and aims to promote wellbeing, maximise learning and teach postive touch.
The programme is also available for parents and parent groups.

What is deep pressure?
The definition of deep pressure is 'the sensation produced when an individual is hugged, squeezed, stroked, or held'
Deep pressure gives firm tactile sensory input that is calming to the whole body, brain and nervous system.
Our deep pressure programme has been carefully created to safely deliver deep pressure touch for individuals who need this to meet their sensory needs and for emotional regulation.
The programme is comprised of techniques from both therapeutic massage and somatosensory activities.
